The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) will conduct a large-scale food safety inspection across school canteens, kindergartens, and associated facilities from September 14 to October 14, 2026. Should any violations be discovered, the Agency will implement immediate measures in accordance with current legislation.

The inspections will focus on compliance with Ordinance No. 2 of January 20, 2021, which establishes specific food quality and safety requirements for school canteens, kindergartens, retail outlets on school premises, and during organized events for students and children.

The checks will encompass not only kindergartens, school canteens, and buffets, but also all facilities regulated by the Food Act located within school grounds. Inspectors will also audit catering companies responsible for supplying food products to educational institutions.

During the inspection, the origin and proper storage of food and raw materials, as well as their expiration dates, will be monitored. Special attention will be paid to whether consumers receive full information, including through the correct labeling of products.

This measure ensures control over food quality in school cafeterias and kindergartens throughout the region, including Burgas.

Citizens with concerns regarding food safety issues can report them to the BFSA via the online contact form on the Agency's official website or by calling the hotline at 0700 122 99.
