Assen Vassilev on the Protests: We Don't Want Them to Reach into the Pockets of Bulgarian Citizens

If you are going to steal through the budget, we will be against it, regardless of the currency, said the chairman of “We Continue the Change” Asen Vasilev in the corridors of the parliament. In response to the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov, who said regarding yesterday's protests in Sofia that they were against the adoption of a budget in euros, Vasilev pointed out to journalists that it doesn't matter what currency the budget is in.

The protests are entirely about not reaching into the pockets of Bulgarian citizens in order to fill the coffers of the government, Vasilev said. The MP added that the demonstrations will continue. It depends on the citizens whether they agree to have the governing parties reach into their pockets, he commented.

Occupation of the government is the only way. The government refuses to listen to Bulgarian citizens and employer organizations, he also stated.

According to Asen Vasilev, the law on public finances is violated through the parameters of the plan-estimate. Vasilev said that if something can be changed in the draft budget, this can happen during the second reading in committee.
