The government of Rumen Radev has hidden its draft 2027 budget, Asen Vasilev, leader of We Continue the Change, said on Facebook.
The former finance minister says the few known details show the budget brings more than €2bn in new taxes, against €50m less in state spending.
Under the Public Finance Act, the draft must reach parliament by 30 October. Vasilev asks why the cabinet has not published it or sent it in, when it claims the budget is good for people and business. He also asks what else is in the document that needs to be kept secret.
Vasilev calls Sunday's election a vote of no confidence in the cabinet's economic policy, and he believes the result has scared the government. "This loud slap from Bulgarian citizens scared them so much that they hid Budget 2027 in breach of the law," he wrote.
The opposition leader says the budget continues a policy of making people poorer. From what is known so far, he points to another rise in the maximum insurable income, the upper limit on pay that is subject to social security contributions. Incomes will rise more slowly than inflation, food vouchers will be taxed, and tax assessments will be higher. The minimum wage will be €30 below what the old formula would give.
Vasilev called on people to show on Sunday that they disagree with the cabinet's economic policy. If Iliana Yotova becomes president, those in power will claim that people back this policy, he says. "There will be no veto of the budget, and no one will be able to stop them passing whatever madness they want," Vasilev wrote.
He also rejects talk that Bulgaria could be dragged into a war, which he says Radev and Yotova use to scare people.
Vasilev says that with Radev as prime minister and Yotova as president, business will be "fleeced", workers will be hit in the pocket, and 1m pensioners will stay below the poverty line.
