Divers from across Bulgaria will clean the seabed around the Bridge in Burgas tomorrow to mark International Black Sea Day, the "Friends of the Sea – Burgas" association said. The clean-up starts at 11am.
Divers from Varna, Plovdiv, Sofia, Stara Zagora and other cities join the event every year. Its motto is "Let's keep the sea and the coast clean together".
The divers will bring rubbish up from the seabed to the shore. The organisers also want to remind people to protect nature and treat it with care.
The clean-up at the Bridge has been a tradition for years. Divers work there twice a year, at the start of summer and after the season ends.
"Friends of the Sea" plan several more events before the end of the year. On St Nicholas Day, the city's holiday, divers will go into the sea in retro gear from the 1960s and show how it is used.
On 24 December at noon, the Christmas Dive will take place near the beach and the Bridge. Santa Claus will come. The divers look on the seabed for a pot full of gold coins, open champagne under water and bring a small Christmas tree.
