Celebration of Ilinden at DGFSP

On July 20, a festive church water consecration service will be held in the courtyard of the General Directorate of Fire Safety and Protection of the Population in Sofia. The event is dedicated to the patron saint's day of Bulgarian firefighters – the day of Saint Prophet Elijah.

Saint Prophet Elijah is revered as the guardian of people against disasters and elements.

Homage to the fallen firefighters

Traditionally, during the holiday, a memorial service will also be held in memory of the firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty. This is a moment of gratitude to the people who risk themselves daily for the sake of public safety.

Investments in modern equipment

Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev emphasized the importance of the technical provisioning of the teams:

  • Providing resources for staff training.
  • Modernizing the technical base through the "Human Resources Development" Program 2021-2027.
  • Efficiency and professionalism in dealing with emergency situations.

The investments, co-financed by the European Union, are a key step toward improving working conditions and the response capacity of the fire service across the country.
