The "Goreshtnitsi" and Traditions in the Ethno-Kitchen

The "Goreshtnitsi" (July 15, 16, and 17) are approaching – the hottest days of the summer. According to folk tradition, during this period, the table should consist mainly of Lenten dishes and plenty of fruits. In the spirit of these traditions, RHM-Burgas is organizing a culinary event dedicated to Strandzha cuisine.

On July 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the museum's Ethno-Kitchen (69 "Slavyanska" St.), the preparation of a traditional green bean and potato stew will be demonstrated.

Why green beans?

Green beans are delicious, healthy, and bring freshness to the summer menu. The museum experts advise:

  • Use only tender and juicy pods without tough strings.
  • The vegetable must be fresh, harvested at the right time.
  • The combination with potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, and aromatic herbs like spearmint and parsley turns the dish into a true masterpiece.

Saint Marina's Day – Lefterski Panagir

The date July 17 was not chosen by accident – it is the third day of the Goreshtnitsi, dedicated to Saint Marina. In the Strandzha region, the holiday is known as "lefterski panagir" (a festival for bachelors and maidens). The saint is revered as a protector of homes from natural disasters and as a guardian against snakes and evil.
