Residents and visitors of Burgas will transform the parking spaces on "Konstantin Fotinov" St. (near the intersection with "Aleko Bogoridi" St.) into zones for creativity and social interaction on September 18, 2026, starting at 09:00, as part of the PARK(ing) Day initiative. This year, ASU "Delfi", the "Astika" Foundation, and volunteers from the "European Solidarity Corps" program are participating in the project to support youth engagement and create a more inclusive urban environment.
The core idea of PARK(ing) Day is to rethink the use of urban spaces by converting temporary parking spots into hubs for civic activity. This international initiative takes place every year in various cities across America and Europe, bringing together artists, business representatives, non-governmental organizations, and citizens to create public spaces for the people. The project emphasizes the importance of social life and public areas for fostering interaction between the local community and various organizations.
The event program includes a variety of activities designed to improve community engagement and promote sustainable urban development. The initiative will feature:
- interactive activities for visitors and Burgas residents, focusing on themes of active citizenship, sustainability, and the urban environment;
- creative workshops and games suitable for all age groups;
- a card-making workshop, where participants can leave messages in a specially prepared mailbox on-site;
- "green future" tea chats, intended to stimulate dialogue and the exchange of ideas between visitors and participants;
- a photo frame with unique, custom-made inscriptions, allowing people to take photos and share their experiences.
Burgas marks its eleventh consecutive participation in this global initiative, which provides an opportunity for meetings and social interaction in the heart of the city.
