Summer snow on Musala peak
While most of Bulgaria enjoys a hot summer, Musala peak offered an unexpected winter fairy tale. At the end of July, hikers and meteorologists captured falling snow on the highest peak in the Balkans.
"Snow in July? Meteorological conditions in the mountains are extremely dynamic and remind us that nature can always surprise us," comment Meteo Bulgaria.
Why did it snow?
- Sharp temperature fluctuations: The passage of a cold atmospheric front led to a noticeable drop in temperatures.
- Altitude matters: At an altitude of over 2900 meters, even a small drop in degrees is enough for rain to turn into snow.
