Bulgarian and British ministers welcomed the first group of British tourists who used the new electronic booths for border crossing when entering Bulgaria. The service was introduced within a week as part of the agreement between the EU and the United Kingdom to facilitate travel.

Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov and UK Minister for EU Relations Nik Thomas-Symonds were present at Terminal 2 of Sofia Airport to welcome the first group of British citizens who passed through the new electronic gates upon entry into Bulgaria. Minister Thomas-Symonds stated that the service will encourage more British tourists to visit the country and will support tourism. The Director of the Main Directorate "Border Police" Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov announced that the measure will be permanent and available at all airports in Bulgaria. Bulgaria is one of the first countries to provide this opportunity for British citizens, within a week of the signing of the agreement between the UK and the EU on May 19.

Minister Mitov expressed special gratitude to Chief Commissioner Zlatanov and the Border Police team for the quick reaction and organization to technically secure the service. Facilitating the travel of British citizens is in the spirit of the ever-improving professional-level cooperation between the services of Bulgaria and the United Kingdom.
