The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has announced a yellow code for cold weather across the country for today.

Temperatures: Minimum temperatures will be from minus 14 to minus 9 degrees, and maximums will also be negative.

Weather today:

  • Cold air will continue to flow in from the northeast.
  • Cloudy weather will prevail over most of the country.
  • Cloud cover will temporarily break up and decrease over the southern regions of the country.
  • A weak to moderate wind will blow from the east-northeast in the western regions, and a moderate wind from the north-northeast in the eastern regions.

Temperatures by region:

  • Northern Bulgaria: between minus 7° and minus 3°.
  • Southern Bulgaria: between minus 2° and 3°.
  • Sofia: around minus 1°.

In the mountains:

  • Not good for tourism.
  • It will be cloudy over the Stara Planina and the mountains of Eastern Bulgaria.
  • Snowfall will occur in Strandzha and in some places along the Stara Planina.
  • Cloud cover will be broken and decreasing over the massifs of Southwestern Bulgaria and the Rhodopes.
  • A moderate and temporarily strong wind will blow from the north-northeast.
  • The maximum temperature at an altitude of 1200 meters will be around minus 4°, at 2000 meters - around minus 10°.

On the Black Sea coast:

  • Cloudy weather will prevail.
  • Snowfall will occur along the Southern Black Sea coast.
  • A moderate and temporarily strong northerly wind will blow.
  • Maximum temperatures will be from minus 4°-minus 3° along the northern coast to minus 2°-0° along the southern coast.
  • The sea water temperature is 8°-10°.
  • The sea swell will be 3-4 points.

Forecast for the next few days:

  • Monday: Cold, with minimum temperatures between minus 12° and minus 7°, and maximums - from minus 5° to 0°. Cloud cover over Northern Bulgaria, broken over Southern Bulgaria.
  • Tuesday: The wind will weaken and change to south-southeast. Sunny weather, daytime temperatures will rise slightly. Cloud cover from the southwest towards the evening.
  • Wednesday - Thursday - Friday: Increasing cloud cover, light snowfall/rain and snow in Southern Bulgaria (Wednesday) and Eastern Bulgaria (Thursday). Warming on Thursday and Friday.
