A magnitude 3.2 earthquake shook the Nessebar area last night, the National Seismological Center at the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography (NIGGG) of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences reported. The tremor was recorded at 8:54 p.m., with its epicenter located 25 km from Sozopol, 40 km from Burgas and about 380 km from Sofia. There were no injuries or material damage.

The institute reported the tremor several hours after it occurred. It monitors the movement of the earth's crust through a network of stations, and data on every earthquake is published on its website.

The Seismological Center appealed to residents of the area who felt the tremor to fill out an online questionnaire. In it, anyone can describe exactly where they were at the moment of the earthquake, how strongly they felt it, and how objects and buildings around them reacted. This information supplements the instrumental measurements from the seismological network.

This is not the first time the southern Black Sea coast has appeared on the seismological map. In April 2025, the Nessebar and Obzor area also experienced several tremors, one of which reached the same magnitude of 3.2. At the time, people on the upper floors of buildings felt them, but without serious consequences. The current earthquake, which struck on September 22, is of exactly the same strength.

NIGGG officials added that they continue to monitor the seismic situation in the Nessebar area and along the southern Black Sea coast.
