"Green Ring Sofia": First steps towards transforming abandoned areas in Sofia

Start of construction works on the "Sofia Green Ring"

The first visible changes along the "Sofia Green Ring" route begin this September. On the eve of the European Volleyball Championship, the "East" section near Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd. will be transformed to provide convenient access to "Arena 8888 Sofia".

The project aims to transform 30 km of abandoned railway land into a green corridor for recreation, cycling, and pedestrian movement.

What is to be built?

• Clearing and preparation of the route;
• Construction of a temporary pedestrian path and new lighting;
• Renovation of the railway tunnel under Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd.;
• New pedestrian access with stairs from the local lane of the boulevard.

The improvements are planned to remain for long-term use after the end of the sporting event. The "Green Ring" is a strategic project that will connect the major parks of Sofia and provide direct access to a green environment for nearly 250,000 Sofia residents.
