Every school and kindergarten must have a fully equipped medical room and a health worker on site for all the time children are there. The Regional Health Inspectorate in Burgas has been explaining the rules at meetings with municipalities across the region.

Dr Miroslava Kiselkova from the Burgas health inspectorate told Bulgarian National Radio that "every kindergarten and every school must have a medical room," fitted out under the rules on setting up such facilities. Medical care must be available the whole time children are there for classes or childcare.

Schools and kindergartens have three years to find a health worker. "This requirement comes with a three-year grace period, because staff are hard to find," Kiselkova said.

Where there is no health worker, two options remain. A school or kindergarten can sign a contract with a local clinic, or train its own staff in first aid.

Kiselkova said the requirements are not new. The meetings are simply a reminder of the rules set out in the regulation governing medical care in schools and kindergartens.
