Deputy Minister Phillip Popov and Albert Hani, the new Director of the Secretariat of the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI), held a meeting where they discussed the important role of RAI in the fight against corruption in Southeast Europe. The two parties confirmed their commitment to further cooperation in order to increase the authority and visibility of the organization in the region and the EU.

During the meeting, Deputy Minister Filipp Popov emphasized the importance of the Regional Anti-Corruption Initiative (RAI) in supporting the efforts of the Western Balkans countries in the field of corruption prevention and fight, as well as in raising public awareness on integrity issues. He noted that in recent years, RAI has established its position as an influential regional organization focused on these current topics.

For his part, Albert Hani, the newly appointed Director of the RAI Secretariat, expressed gratitude for the Bulgarian support for the activities of the initiative. He stressed the important role of Bulgaria as an EU member state in the process of building cooperation and exchange of good practices in the field of corruption prevention and fight in the Southeast Europe region.

The two sides expressed commitment to further cooperation, in order to enhance the role and visibility of RAI in the region and in the EU. Albert Hani began a series of meetings with representatives of the countries participating in the regional initiative to discuss the future priorities in the organization's activities.

We recall that in May 2025, Albert Hani took over the position of RAI Director from Desislava Gotskova (Bulgaria). During her successful four-year term, the positions of RAI were strengthened and its links with organizations engaged in supporting the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of the Western Balkans countries were reinforced. Steps were also taken to increase the visibility of RAI in the regional and European context.

RAI is a regional initiative within which the Western Balkans countries - Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia and Montenegro, together with Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia and Moldova, share experience, good practices and define and implement regional priorities for more effective fight against corruption, participating in joint projects.
