Man Arrested for Growing Cannabis in Karnobat

A 41-year-old Belgian citizen of Colombian origin has been detained in Karnobat, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Burgas announced. The arrest is related to suspicions of growing and possessing cannabis.

Today's actions by the employees of the Regional Police Department in Karnobat, which began with a search of two addresses in the city inhabited by the detainee, led to the discovery of a large amount of narcotic substances. At one of the locations, the officers came across a specially prepared room. It included a tent equipped with the necessary ventilation, lighting, and heating systems. In this improvised greenhouse, 21 pots with cannabis plants were discovered. The height of the plants varied between 60 and 70 centimeters. In addition to them, the police also seized fertilizers, preparations, and soil intended for growing cannabis.

In addition to the pots with plants, the police operation also led to the seizure of about 4 kilograms of dry cannabis mass - heads and leaves.

The detained man is detained for a period of up to 24 hours. A pre-trial investigation has already been initiated in the Regional Police Department - Karnobat.

BTA Agency recalls that this is not the only such case. On September 15 this year, during an operation by the Main Directorate "Combating Organized Crime", a 31-year-old man was detained. He was suspected of growing plants of the genus hemp in the village of Draka, Sredets municipality. The case, initiated in the case, was to be heard in the district court in Sredets. However, due to the recusals of the judges, the Supreme Cassation Court decided to transfer the case to the Regional Court in Varna.
