On October 5th at 6:30 PM, the Burgas Library will host Yuliana Antonova-Murata, a distinguished career diplomat and author of five books. The occasion for the event is the premiere of her latest book, titled "Sate Sate, Japan."

The author's latest work takes readers into the authentic atmosphere of Japanese philosophy, interpreted through the heart and eyes of a Bulgarian woman who lived for many years among the Japanese diplomatic and artistic elite. In her capacity as consul, cultural attaché, and minister plenipotentiary at our embassy in Tokyo, she forged deep connections with the cultural circles of the Land of the Rising Sun.

Iconic to her time there is her family friendship with the fashion genius Issey Miyake, who, inspired by her, created a special line of clothing and a limited collection featuring the Bulgarian rose. The husband of Yuliana Antonova-Murata, who served as director of the prestigious international Daido Moriyama Foundation, organized four landmark exhibitions in Japan for the world-renowned artist Christo Javacheff-Christo.

The meeting with Burgas readers also carries a strong personal sentiment, as in the 1990s the diplomat organized and opened an exhibition in the Daikanyama gallery in Tokyo for the eminent fellow citizen from Burgas, Stoyan Tsanev, which became a significant cultural event. Known among the cultural elite for her impeccable personal style, the author shares vivid memories from the golden age of the global art avant-garde.

During the presentation, Yuliana Antonova-Murata will reveal previously unpublished details from her correspondence with Christo and Issey Miyake, while also touching upon topics such as:

  • stories related to the renowned Japanese longevity;
  • the power of love and greeting;
  • modern urban innovations in Japan that could be applied in our country as well.
