Today at 16:35 a military transport plane "Spartan" of the Bulgarian Air Force (Air Force) landed at "Vasil Levski" airport in Sofia, transporting a 7-month-old baby and his two parents. The child had undergone urgent vitreoretinal surgical intervention at a hospital in Antwerp, Belgium, for the treatment of an eye disease.
The process of organizing the transport and treatment of the young patient was carried out in a record short time of 5 days. The National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) quickly approves the financing of the surgical treatment in a foreign medical facility. Immediately afterwards, the NHIF experts organize the admission of the child to the hospital in Belgium.
A resuscitation team from the Specialized Hospital for Active Treatment of Children's Diseases (SHACTD) "Prof. Dr. Ivan Mitev" in Sofia and the Military Medical Academy (MMA) monitors the condition of the child during the entire transport - from the hospital in Antwerp to the airport, during the flight and to the SHACTD in Sofia.
