As of April 21, a total of 153 cases of measles have been officially registered in Bulgaria, according to the latest data published by the Ministry of Health. The last four cases were reported on Tuesday, indicating ongoing activity of the virus in the country.

Distribution of new cases

The new infections are distributed across several different regions, with one case registered in each of the following areas:

  • Vratsa
  • Lovech
  • Pleven
  • Sofia-city

The age group of the newly infected varies between 10 and 48 years, highlighting the need for attention to both children and adults.

It is important to note that immunization against measles is mandatory and is applied after reaching 13 months of age, as well as after 12 years of age.

Fighting the epidemic through vaccination

Since the beginning of the spread of the disease in Bulgaria, over 19,580 vaccines against measles, mumps, and rubella have already been administered. Mass vaccination is a key tool for preventing larger outbreaks of the disease.

How to recognize the symptoms?

Measles is a highly contagious disease that presents with a characteristic clinical picture. The main symptoms you should pay attention to are:

  • Increased body temperature
  • Severe cough and runny nose
  • Tearing and inflammation of the eyes
  • Characteristic rash on the body

Upon the appearance of such symptoms, it is extremely important to seek medical help immediately and to isolate the infected person to avoid further spread.
