In Bulgaria, serious road accidents claimed a life and injured 12 people within 24 hours. The Ministry of Interior reported the grim statistics, including incidents in Sofia and from the beginning of the year.

A tragic day on the road left a heavy mark on the country, after 12 serious accidents claimed the life of one person and injured another 12 in the last 24 hours alone. This was announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) on its official website, painting a grim picture of the roads in the country.

Tension is palpable as the residents of the capital are trying to make sense of what happened. In Sofia, one of the epicenters of the events, four serious and 26 minor road accidents were recorded. One person lost their life in these incidents, leaving family and friends in grief.

The month has barely begun and it has already left a bitter taste. Since the beginning of the month, road accidents reached 198, taking the lives of 20 people and causing injuries to 247.

But the picture becomes even grimmer when a balance sheet is made from the beginning of the year. A total of 5830 road accidents have been registered since January, as a result of which 392 people have lost their lives, and 7259 have been injured.

And despite this tragic statistic, the MIA notes a slight ray of hope. When compared with the data for those killed during the same period of the previous year, a decrease is observed. According to the data, in 2025 there are eight fewer fatalities in road traffic participants, compared to the same period of 2024. Despite this small positive trend, the serious consequences of road accidents remain a tragic fact, requiring attention and urgent measures.
