A motorcyclist has died in a serious crash this evening on the Aytos pass, at the turn for the village of Zetyovo, witnesses say. Police have not yet confirmed the death, so the report remains unverified for now.
The alert came in minutes ago, and police and emergency crews are now at the scene. Police have not yet said how many people were involved, what caused the crash, or whether anyone died.
Witnesses say the road is blocked at that stretch. Drivers heading through the pass tonight should expect long delays and changes to traffic.
It's the latest serious crash on this stretch of road in recent weeks. On September 30, a car and a lorry crashed head-on at the same junction near Zetyovo, killing two men and a woman. According to the Burgas regional police, the car had crossed into the oncoming lane and hit the lorry. The pass was shut, and the road was left covered in debris.
Three days earlier, on September 27, two cars crashed on the stretch before the turn for Ruen. Both cars were badly damaged, and police had to direct traffic until the wreckage was cleared from the road.
Police are expected to give more details and an official statement on tonight's crash.
Updated (04.10, 19:03): Local media said the motorcyclist killed was a 57-year-old man from the village of Karageorgievo. He crashed into a car and died at the scene.
