A serious accident involving two heavy-duty trucks has disrupted traffic in the Lukovit area, according to the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Lovech. The incident occurred at 7:35 a.m. on the I-3 Ruse – Sofia road, in the section between the villages of Rumyantsevo and Petrevene.

The collision involved a head-on crash between a truck with Bulgarian registration and one with Romanian registration. One of the drivers was severely injured and was transported by air ambulance to a medical facility in Pleven. The second driver managed to exit his cab on his own but was also taken to a hospital in Pleven.

Traffic along the route is completely suspended, as the heavy vehicles are blocking the road and their cargo has spilled onto the pavement. Police teams are on-site regulating traffic.

Detour routes have been implemented to assist drivers. Those traveling towards Ruse are being diverted through the village of Zlatna Panega, past the cement plant, then continuing above the village of Brestnitsa and along road 305 through Peshterna – Toros – Dermantsi. For those moving in the direction of Sofia, the detour goes through Lukovit – the village of Todorichene – the village of Dermantsi, connecting to the Hemus motorway or continuing along road 305. Law enforcement authorities urge drivers to exercise increased caution.
