Cold front brings storms and significant rainfall, temperatures drop sharply

The country is facing a significant change in weather conditions after a cold atmospheric front begins its transition from west to east. This phenomenon, expected to bring significant rainfall and storms, will lead to a sharp drop in temperatures and put an end to the summer heat in many areas.

A key indicator of the change is atmospheric pressure, which is currently holding at levels below the monthly average. It is expected to start rising gradually in the afternoon, signaling the arrival of a more stable, but also cooler, air mass.

Storms and hail in Northern Bulgaria

The most intense meteorological phenomena will be in Western and Central Northern Bulgaria. Here, forecasters predict short-lived, but intense rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms. The potential for hail is high, which requires increased caution from residents and farmers in these areas. The wind will gradually orient itself from west-northwest and intensify, bringing cool air throughout the country.

Temperatures will undergo a drastic change within a few hours. Around 3 p.m. thermometers will show between 23 and 25 degrees in Northwestern Bulgaria, while in the eastern regions of the country, summer heat will still be felt with temperatures reaching 32 to 33 degrees. In the capital Sofia, where the influence of mountain air is felt, the maximum temperature will be around 25 degrees.

Changes in the mountains and on the Black Sea coast

Mountainous areas will also feel the arrival of the cold front. Although there will be short-lived rain with thunderstorms coming from the southwest before noon, they will begin to stop even before noon. By the evening, the rainfall is expected to stop completely in the mountains. The wind, which until now has been moderate to strong southerly, will reorient itself to west-northwest, bringing freshness with it. At an altitude of 1200 meters, the maximum temperature will be around 21 degrees, and at 2000 meters – about 13 degrees.

On the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, the day will start mostly sunny, but in the afternoon and evening, short-lived rain is expected in places. The sea breeze will change: in the morning it will be light from the south-southeast, but around and after noon it will strengthen to moderate from the south-southwest. In the evening, the wind will orient itself from the west. Air temperatures will hold between 27 and 31 degrees, and the sea water remains pleasant for swimming, with a temperature of 24 to 25 degrees. The sea excitement is expected to be 2 balls.
