Sofia Municipality refutes Ministry of Interior regarding fentanyl laboratory

The property where an illegal fentanyl production laboratory was discovered in the Filipovtsi district of the capital is not owned by the Sofia Municipality. This was made clear in an official statement distributed by the administration to the media.

"The Sofia Municipality is not a party to any lease, management, or maintenance agreements for this property and bears no responsibility in any capacity for the way it was used," the municipality stated.

Whose property is the land?

According to a reference in the cadastral registers, the land is owned by the Agricultural Academy (National Center for Agrarian Sciences) – a budgetary organization under the umbrella of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.

The municipality issued this comment after the acting Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov, told the media that the land was municipal property.

Call for accuracy

The Sofia Municipality called on the competent institutions to:

• Provide accurate and verified information;
• Cease the dissemination of false claims;
• Avoid creating misleading impressions in society.

In conclusion, the municipality expressed its support for the actions of the Ministry of Interior and the GDBOP (General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime) against drug distribution and stated that it expects a full clarification of the circumstances surrounding the case during the course of the investigation.
