Sunshine will cover almost all of Bulgaria on Sunday, with temperatures of 20 to 25 degrees, the weather forecast shows. It will be cooler on the coast, with a light to moderate northeast wind.
The night before will be clear, with lows of 3 to 8 degrees in most areas. Western and central Bulgaria will be colder, with frost in some spots.
Sofia can expect around 22 degrees. Along the Black Sea coast, highs of 19 to 22 degrees will be close to the sea temperature.
It will also be sunny in the mountains, with good conditions for hiking. At Aleko temperatures will reach 8 degrees, in Borovets up to 14, and around 19 in Bansko and Smolyan.
Winds will stay light across most of the country, picking up to moderate from the east only in the southeast. In the mountains, winds will blow light to moderate from the east-northeast.
Sunny weather will also dominate the first days of the new week. Lows in parts of western Bulgaria will drop to 1 or 2 degrees, while on the coast they won't fall below 10 to 12. Daytime highs will stay about the same. Visibility will be reduced in some areas early in the morning, and light rain is possible in a few spots.
On Tuesday, clouds will increase, and on Wednesday morning visibility will be reduced in parts of the far east. On Thursday, cloud cover will grow, with rain in parts of western Bulgaria, and temperatures will rise slightly.
Elsewhere in Europe, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in the southwest on Sunday, hitting hardest in parts of northern Spain. Western and northern Europe will be mostly cloudy with rain, while southern and central areas will be sunny. The Balkans will also be mostly sunny, though southern areas will be windy and fairly cool for early October, with heavy rain in places in the southernmost parts of the peninsula.
