"The Prosecutor's Son" from Pernik, Vasil Mihaylov, is detained

The son of Pernik prosecutor Vasil Mihaylov – Vasil Mihaylov, known by the nickname "The Prosecutor's Son," was arrested after a search that lasted more than a month. The detention was announced by the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Georgi Kandev.

"The wanted fugitive from justice, known by the nickname 'The Prosecutor's Son,' has just been detained by the GDBOP," he wrote on social media, specifying that the operation concluded successfully.

Mihaylov had been in hiding for over a month. The latest serious act for which he is alleged to be complicit is an attack on a Ministry of Interior officer in the village of Lyulin, Pernik region. The incident occurred in March, and according to the investigation, Vasil Mihaylov acted together with another young man.

The previous work of the police officer in the criminal police is indicated as a likely motive for the attack. He is currently an officer at the GDBOP, but he recognized the car in which the two attackers arrived, as the car had already been subject to an inspection as part of another investigation.

According to the officer, the car stopped in front of his home, and two men stepped out and headed towards him and his father. The policeman ordered them to stop, but when they did not comply, he fired two warning shots – one in the air and one into the ground. After that, the two attackers fled.

"When the state is in its place, the result is visible. After months of searching, the so-called prosecutor's son – Vasil Mihaylov – has been detained," wrote Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev, emphasizing the importance of consistent institutional actions.

Mihaylov's arrest was carried out in the Sofia neighborhood of "Svoboda." Upon his detention, it was established that he had changed his appearance – with a long beard and hair, to be more difficult to recognize. It is believed that he had been staying at the address where he was captured for a short period.

Over the past two months, Mihaylov had changed dozens of addresses, and according to the investigation, many people had provided him with assistance. Hundreds of Ministry of Interior officers participated in the large-scale search operation, and support was also provided by the State Agency for National Security. He did not offer resistance during the arrest.

Vasil Mihaylov is the son of Pernik prosecutor Vasil Mihaylov, who has also been detained in the past. A case for usury was brought against the magistrate, but he was completely acquitted. Later, he was also arrested following a report that he had beaten his wife, but she subsequently denied being a victim of such violence.

His son first attracted public attention in 2023, when numerous complaints became known from Pernik residents claiming that they had been beaten by him. Among the mentioned victims is also a police officer, which further heightened public tension surrounding the case.
