A serious accident involving a car and a cyclist has shaken Chepelare. According to data from the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior – Smolyan, a driver hit a cyclist and fled the scene of the accident without providing assistance.

The incident occurred on "Vasil Dechev" Street after a 79-year-old driver from Smolyan attempted an illegal overtaking of a 45-year-old cyclist.

Case details

After the collision, the driver continued on his way, but was later identified by police teams. The injured cyclist was transported to the "Dr. Bratan Shukerov" Hospital in Smolyan, where doctors diagnosed a leg fracture. Fortunately, there is currently no danger to the victim's life.

• Alcohol tests: Negative for both participants.
• Narcotic substances: Negative results.
• Pre-trial proceedings initiated: The case is under investigation.
