Pomorie Rotary Club has invited residents to a clean-up of the shore along the path by the Old Pier. Children and adults can take part. The event is part of the international "Plastic-Free Sea Week", the club said. It did not give a date or time.

The week is held every year from 2 to 9 November, and clubs and partners from more than 20 countries join in. The campaign is run by EndPlasticSoup, a working group of the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group (ESRAG). The group wants more awareness, more education and specific action against plastic pollution.

The club says waste management measures are working, but plastic is still one of the main long-lasting pollutants on beaches and in the sea.

The club believes plastic that cannot be seen poses the bigger risk to health. It does not dissolve but breaks into tiny pieces. The club says new studies give worrying findings on micro- and nanoplastics in the human body and the harm they do to the health of people and animals.

Pomorie Rotarians have organised other environmental events, but this time the focus is on the sea. The club says the clean-up should start a conversation about health and the future of the next generations. It says children grow into active and responsible citizens through shared action and personal example.

With the event, the club wants to show that life is beautiful without plastic, and that the sea is life, not decoration.
