Weather forecast: Rain with hail today, heatwave on Friday

After a stormy night that brought precipitation to many parts of the country, the day begins with significant cloudiness. It was still raining during the night, mostly in Central Bulgaria, BNT reports. The wind was blowing from the west-northwest, and in the eastern regions from the northeast, gradually weakening.

This afternoon, the wind is expected to strengthen to a moderate level, and its direction will turn to the northeast. According to meteorologists, rain and thunderstorms will affect more areas, especially in Eastern and Southern Bulgaria. Forecasters warn that conditions for hailstorms remain, which could potentially cause damage to agricultural crops. Only in the Danubian Plain is the day expected to pass with almost no rainfall.

Afternoon temperatures will vary between 25° and 30° degrees Celsius. In Sofia, values around 25° are expected, while the Black Sea coast will be slightly warmer, with temperatures between 26° and 28°. The sea water remains pleasant for swimming, with a temperature of 26°. However, forecasters note that the sea swell, which has been stronger until now, is already beginning to weaken and will be within 2-3 Beaufort.

The situation in the mountains will be more dynamic. Heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected there. They will be particularly intense in the mountain ranges in Southwestern Bulgaria and in Central Stara Planina, where there are also conditions for hailstorms. The wind in the high parts will be from the west-northwest, while in the lowlands a moderate wind from the north-northeast will blow.

FORECAST FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK

The forecast for the end of the week shows that the weather will be "more colorful", with more isolated showers in different regions, although overall sunny weather will prevail. On Thursday, a southern wind is expected to appear, which will precede a sharp rise in temperatures. On Friday, the mercury in thermometers will rise significantly, exceeding 35°, and in some places will reach up to 37-38° degrees, which is expected to bring a short but strong heatwave.

However, this heat will be short-lived, as in the night to Saturday and during the day on Saturday the process will turn around completely. The entry of a cold atmospheric front is expected, which will bring a new portion of precipitation and thunderstorms. Again there will be conditions for hailstorms, and temperatures will drop sharply, by about 6-7° degrees. This sharp cooling will put an end to the short-lived heatwave and will lead to a significant change in the meteorological situation in the country.
