Professional Holiday of the Police in Bulgaria

The police in Bulgaria marked their professional holiday, which traditionally is celebrated on the eve of Archangel's Day. The atmosphere in front of the building of the General Directorate "National Police" in the capital was filled with solemnity, reflecting the significance of the event.

The history of the holiday begins from the distant 1924, when it was first celebrated on November 21 (Feast of St. Archangel Michael according to the old style). This was followed by a period of interruption, as from 1943 to 1993 the holiday was not celebrated. It was restored in 1994 at the proposal of the National Police Syndicate, and the date was set for November 8, on the day of the church holiday Feast of St. Archangel Michael. The modern history of the celebration began in 1999, when with Decision 38 of the Council of Ministers of January 29, 1999, it was formalized as a professional holiday.

Yesterday's solemn ceremony was dedicated to the marking of the holiday, with employees and guests gathering in front of the GDNP building. Obviously, those present expressed respect for the law enforcement officers. Honorary badges for merits were awarded at the ceremony. The director of the Regional Directorate (RD) of the Ministry of Interior in Shumen, Senior Commissioner Georgi Gendov, and the director of the RD of the Ministry of Interior in Burgas, Senior Commissioner Vladimir Marinov, were distinguished.

The Minister of Interior presented an honorary award for valor and merit – third degree to the director of GDNP, Chief Commissioner Zahari Vaskov, as well as an honorary award for valor and merit – second degree to the chief secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Miroslav Rashkov.

The Minister of Interior Daniel Mitov, quoted by the Ministry, addressed those present with a speech, emphasizing the importance of the police profession. "Together we will continue to build the image of the system so that both we and the citizens are proud of the police profession," the minister said. He also expressed gratitude to the families of the uniformed officers for their patience and understanding of the work of their loved ones.
