On June 29, 2025, exactly at 2:30 PM, an emergency signal was received about a fire that had occurred in the lakeside area of Kazashko village, located in the Varna municipality. Due to the critical environmental situation, specialized staff from the Regional Inspection for Environment and Water in Varna took immediate action.
During the thorough on-site inspection carried out the next day, the scale of destruction was determined. The fire covered the eastern part of the land, spreading along the northern shore of Varna Lake and destroying significant areas of vegetation.
The fire caused partial burning of dry grasses, reeds, and shrub formations. The total affected area amounts to approximately 10 decares, with the most critical zones including the protected areas "Kazashko" and "Marshland", where the fire destroyed about 3 decares.
An important aspect of the incident is its impact on the ecosystem – the affected territory falls within a protected zone of the European ecological network "Natura 2000", designed to protect wild birds. A positive point is that during the inspection, no affected animal species were registered.
Experts predict that vegetation will naturally recover within a few months, parallel to the onset of rainy seasons. Alongside the environmental assessment, the District Prosecutor's Office - Varna is conducting an investigation, after which the corresponding administrative and punitive actions will be taken in accordance with environmental legislation.
