Employees of the Sofia Directorate of Internal Affairs detained two people in an attempt to sell a large quantity of hookah tobacco without an excise stamp. A search of the suspects' homes followed, where additional stocks of contraband goods were found.

The investigation of the case begins after receiving operational information about an upcoming transaction with illegal hookah tobacco. Economic police and officers from the Seventh District Police Department form a team that traces the purchase and sale of the excise goods. At the time of the transaction, two men aged 39 and 53 were detained.

During the subsequent search of a vehicle driven by one of the suspects, over 60 kg of hookah tobacco without a banderol were found and seized. The homes of the detainees were also searched, where an additional over 90 kg of hookah tobacco, vapes, shredded cigarette tobacco and packs of cigarettes, all without an excise banderol, were found.

A pre-trial proceeding under Article 234 of the Criminal Code has been initiated in the case. The materials will be reported to the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, and the investigation is ongoing.
