On June 11, 2025, the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP) conducted a large-scale operation against an organized crime group engaged in drug distribution in Sofia and the region. During the operation, carried out under the supervision of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office and with the permission of the Sofia City Court, 13 people were detained, of whom four were given a measure of restraint "detention for 72 hours".
The four detainees are accused of participating in an organized crime group engaged in the distribution of narcotic substances and their derivatives. A request for the measure of restraint to remain unchanged is pending.
During the investigation, 17 addresses and 9 motor vehicles were searched. Quantities of narcotic substances, over 120,000 leva in cash, electronic scales, mobile phones, and other evidence related to the illegal activity were seized. Witnesses have been questioned, and expert examinations are pending.
According to the investigators, the detained individuals are also involved in previous cases of drug trafficking uncovered by GDBOP in 2024, when over a kilogram of cocaine, more than 3,500 ecstasy tablets, around 300 grams of hashish, and over 500 grams of amphetamine worth about half a million leva were seized.
Information about the operation and its results was presented at a briefing in the Courthouse in Sofia by GDBOP Director Chief Commissioner Boyan Raev and Deputy City Prosecutor Desislava Petrova.
