Firms and organisations are getting emails that give a "new" bank account for paying their contracts with clients or partners. The press office of the regional police directorate (ODMVR) in Shumen has warned of the new fraud scheme.

The directorate urges all firms, institutions and organisations to take care when they pay into newly given accounts.

Police say that whenever a bank account or payment details change, the other side must confirm the change before any transfer is made. A letter, email or phone call is not a reason to change bank details or order a transfer. No one should pay just because they received a message.

The check should be made by contacting an authorised representative of the institution or organisation through official channels. Police also advise people not to send money to such accounts until they are sure the accounts are genuine.

If staff suspect fraud, they should tell their managers, who will decide what to do.

In May, police in Shumen detained five men from Burgas over loans taken out with other people's personal data.
