Higher Fees for ID Cards from 2026

From 2026, fees for ID cards in Bulgaria are increasing. The price for a 10-year document will be 30 leva. Citizens can replace their ID cards online or in the "Bulgarian Identity Documents" sector.

From the beginning of 2026, citizens will have to pay more for the issuance of ID cards, according to new regulations. According to official information, the price for a document with a validity period of ten years will increase to 30 leva. For comparison, currently this fee is 18 leva and remains in effect until the end of the current year.

Those who prefer an ID card with a shorter validity period, in this case four years, will have to budget 21 leva. Until now, this service costs 13 leva.

At the same time, ID card holders have the opportunity to replace their identity documents before the expiration of their validity period. Applications can be submitted in each "Bulgarian Identity Documents" sector at the regional directorates in the territory of the respective region. This can be done through a standard procedure.

In addition, citizens have access to an alternative method for facilitating administrative service. This option includes the use of the portal for electronic administrative services of the Ministry of Interior, accessible at e-uslugi.mvr.bg.

Through this portal, every Bulgarian citizen with a valid Bulgarian qualified electronic signature has the opportunity to apply for the issuance of an ID card and/or passport. Also, they can request a certificate for events and facts related to the issuance of documents.

It is also important to note the deadline for submitting an application for renewal of an ID card. According to the rules, this must happen within 30 days after the expiration date of the current document.

You may also like

Failure to meet the deadline for submitting an application for an ID card or replacing an already issued one, but with an expired validity period, leads to the imposition of a fine. The fine ranges from 50 to 250 leva.
