Four young people aged 18 to 21 died in a serious crash on the Pleven–Yasen road. Pleven council has declared 9 October a day of mourning in their memory, its press office said. See our original report: Four young people killed in head-on crash on Pleven–Yasen road.

Mayor Valentin Hristov signed the order. The flag outside the council building is flying at half-mast as a sign of sympathy.

The crash happened shortly before 11pm. The driver of one of the cars is in hospital in Pleven.

The council sent condolences to the families and friends of those who died. "This loss is a huge tragedy for Pleven," the message says. The council says the loss of young people is especially hard to bear. It bows to their memory and says: "There are no words that can comfort their loved ones."
