Peevski to NSO: Who is being guarded and how much does it cost?

DPS leader Delyan Peevski is taking official steps to reveal details regarding the work of the National Security Service (NSO). Through an official request under the Access to Public Information Act (APIA), he is demanding full transparency regarding all individuals who have used state protection from 2013 to the present.

The request aims to satisfy significant public interest regarding the criteria for the protection of high-ranking public figures and the efficiency of public spending.

What is specifically being requested?

• A list of all individuals guarded by the NSO over the last decade.
• A full financial report on the costs of providing security regimes.
• Justification for the duration and procedure of the protection provided.

The DPS press office emphasizes that if the head of the NSO, Major General Emil Tonev, refuses access to the information, the matter will be referred to the Administrative Court. There is already a precedent where the court ruled in favor of transparency after it became clear that the security for Peevski himself had cost over 220,000 BGN for 10 months.

The actions of the DPS are a direct response to public questions about how taxpayers' money is spent on the security of the political elite.
