Bulgaria's tax agency NRA found tax breaches in nearly 60% of the medical and dental clinics and surgeries it checked in Sofia and Sofia region.
Inspectors checked 24 sites on 3 November alone. They found receipts missing required details, sales recorded wrongly, and gaps between the cash in the till and the sum on the fiscal device. They also found VAT that was not charged – tax that is due on the price of a service but was not recorded.
The NRA will draw up reports on the breaches and impose the penalties set by law.
The agency says patients should ask for a receipt every time they pay a doctor or dentist. If a surgery refuses to issue one, patients can hold back payment until they get the fiscal receipt.
A receipt can be checked with the NRA's "NRA Mobile" app for iOS and Android by scanning the QR code on it.
If you see a receipt not issued, a fake payment document, a receipt missing required details or any other tax or social security breach, call the NRA information centre on 0700 18 700 or write to [email protected].
