Parliamentary clash: Attempt to terminate the agreement with Ukraine fails

The National Assembly rejected a draft resolution demanding that the Council of Ministers take action to terminate the cooperation agreement between Bulgaria and Ukraine, signed on March 30 in Kyiv. The proposal, submitted by "Vazrazhdane", received only 10 votes "for", while 160 deputies voted "against", and 14 abstained.

"The National Assembly was not informed in advance about the intentions of the caretaker government," stated Angel Georgiev from "Vazrazhdane", emphasizing the need for parliamentary control over important foreign policy acts.

• The position of "Vazrazhdane": Speakers from the party accused the government of inconsistency and failure to fulfill pre-election promises, criticizing the agreement for military aid and joint weapons production.
• Arguments of "Progressive Bulgaria": The parliamentary group pointed out that the proposal is unconstitutional, citing Constitutional Court decisions regarding the separation of powers.
• The position of GERB-SDS: Hristo Gadzhev emphasized that the legal procedure for the agreement allows for termination with written notice, but the National Assembly's decision in this form is not lawful.
