The charge against the 18-year-old electric vehicle driver from Sunny Beach is changing

BURGAS – The condition of those injured in the serious incident in Sunny Beach has significantly worsened, which necessitates the reclassification of the charge against the 18-year-old electric vehicle driver. This was announced to journalists by prosecutor Hristo Kolev, as he awaited the start of the court session at the Palace of Justice in Burgas. During the session, the state prosecutor's appeal against the initial decision of the Nessebar District Court, which ordered the accused to be under house arrest, was being considered.

The case attracted serious public attention, and today's session was held against a backdrop of heightened interest from the media and citizens who were following the development of the proceedings. The initial decision of the Nessebar court to release the young man under house arrest provoked discussions about the adequacy of the measure, given the circumstances of the incident.

According to prosecutor Kolev, the new circumstances of the case necessitated stricter measures. He pointed out that in the initial stage of the investigation, data on medium bodily harm were received, which led to the initial charge. Now, however, expert opinions and new evidence show that the victims are in a much more serious condition.

"When the documents from the forensic doctor arrive, we will be able to tell you definitively, but the minimum is serious bodily harm," said prosecutor Kolev. He clarified that new expert conclusions will be presented today before the Burgas District Court, which will justify the request for a more serious charge. In the worst-case scenario, if one of the hospitalized victims dies, the charge will be reclassified to causing death. The law provides for a penalty of up to 20 years in prison for such a crime.

The prosecutor added that immediately after the 18-year-old was detained, samples for alcohol and drugs were taken from him. A DNA examination has also been ordered to provide additional information on the case. The samples were sent to the Military Medical Academy in Sofia, but as of the time of the statement, the results were not yet ready. The investigation continues with the aim of clarifying all the details of the serious road incident.
