The National Security Service (NSS) solemnly celebrated 147 years since the establishment of the Bulgarian state protection institution. To mark its professional holiday, the agency organized an official event in the capital, which brought together representatives of the state leadership, public figures, and officials from the security sector. Among the officials present were the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Iliana Iotova, the President of the National Assembly Mihaela Dotsova, President (1997-2002) Petar Stoyanov, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Galab Donev, as well as the Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev. The ceremony was also attended by His Holiness Daniil, Patriarch of Bulgaria and Metropolitan of Sofia, service veterans, and heads of various public order and national security structures.
The spiritual aspect of the holiday was marked by a prayer service performed by His Holiness Bulgarian Patriarch Daniil, who offered a blessing for the health and prosperity of those working in the service. In his speech during the celebration, the head of the NSS, Major General Emil Tonev, described the status of "guardian of Bulgarian statehood" as a symbol of immense trust and high duty. He was adamant that the institution would continue to perform its functions strictly, stating: "We will continue to consistently uphold this recognition and the highest trust placed in us, according to the letter of the law and without any compromises."
Major General Tonev paid special attention to the new additions to the officer and sergeant corps, emphasizing his expectations for them to prove their loyalty and professionalism daily. In his address to them, he focused on the high price of success: "You must be prepared for more sacrifices, more discipline, and even greater efforts. Because the composure and sober judgment that our employees have had to demonstrate repeatedly over the past year are professional qualities built over years."
The head of the NSS did not miss the opportunity to express his gratitude to the entire team for their dedication and the feats accomplished under difficult circumstances. He reminded them that even though the work of the employees often remains unnoticed by the general public, it is invaluable to the state. "Some of you have saved human lives, and some have distinguished themselves while performing important official tasks. But all of you have shown high professional qualities. As a rule, these achievements remain outside of public attention, but I hope you find the satisfaction you deserve in the trust placed in you and in the appreciation for a job well done," concluded the head of the National Security Service.
