Burgas region saw 490 serious road crashes in 2025, which killed 23 people and injured 611, according to data from the National Statistical Institute. Compared with 2024, serious crashes rose 1%, injuries rose 1.8%, but deaths fell 11.5%.

Among Bulgaria's 28 regions, Burgas ranks fourth for the number of serious crashes, third for injuries and sixth for deaths in 2025.

August saw the most crashes, 82, while February had the fewest, just 18. July had the most injuries, 106 people, or 17.3% of all injuries for the year. May had the highest share of deaths, 26.1%, while February saw no deaths from crashes in the region at all.

Thursday is the day with the most crashes, 80. On Thursdays, 106 people were hurt and 2 died.

By age, the injured break down as follows:

  • Children and young people under 15: 11.6%;
  • Ages 15 to 24: 20.8%;
  • Ages 25 to 64: 51.7%;
  • Over 65: 15.9%.

Among the injured, drivers make up the largest share at 47.6%, followed by passengers at 31.6% and pedestrians at 20.6%. The picture is similar for deaths: drivers account for 52.2%, passengers for 30.4% and pedestrians for 17.4%.

In 2025, 63.5% of crashes in the region happened inside towns and villages, where 362 people were injured and 5 died. The remaining 36.5% happened outside built-up areas, with 249 injured and 18 dead.

By municipality, Burgas municipality had the most crashes, 179, with 213 injured and 5 dead. Nesebar municipality came next with 101 crashes, 122 injured and 2 dead. Tsarevo municipality had the fewest crashes, just 6, with 5 injured and 1 dead.
