Large-scale operation by Burgas Customs against counterfeit goods
Over 44,000 children's items featuring images of popular cartoon characters were seized by customs officials in Burgas. The goods arrived in a sea container from China and were intended for import into Bulgaria.
The container was selected for a thorough inspection following a precise risk analysis by officers from the "Customs Intelligence and Investigation" department.
What did the inspectors find?
- 32,256 plastic children's cups
- 11,880 bottle lids
The inspection revealed that the goods bore figurative images of well-known cartoon characters protected by intellectual property rights. After consulting a specialized European information system for combating piracy, the customs officers found reasonable indications of counterfeiting.
What happens next?
The entire quantity of goods has been seized in accordance with European regulations. The trademark holder will be officially notified to confirm the counterfeit origin of the items and to take subsequent legal action.
