Official protest of carriers: Why did it come to this?

The Union of International Carriers has officially announced preparations for a large-scale protest scheduled for June 15, 2026. The decision follows months of waiting for a constructive dialogue with state institutions, which never took place.

"The lack of feedback and clear commitments puts the financial sustainability of the entire transport sector at risk," stated the association's press office.

Key demands of the transport industry:

  • "Civil Liability" insurance: Addressing issues that increase operating costs.
  • "De minimis" regime: Real mechanisms for support.
  • Compensation for toll fees: A clear framework for cost relief.

The industry organization emphasizes that the protest is a last resort, prompted by accumulated tension. Transport companies are insisting not just on talks, but on concrete solutions and clear deadlines for implementation.

Chronology of discontent

This is not the first time that carriers have expressed their dissatisfaction. At the beginning of last month, together with the Bulgarian Association of Road Transport Associations (BASAT), they organized protest actions. At that time, the protest was temporarily called off in the hope of change, but the lack of results forced the sector to resume preparations for nationwide unrest.

Despite the announced protest readiness, the Union of International Carriers confirms that they remain open to negotiations, provided that the state demonstrates a responsible attitude toward the problems of the transport business.
