Environment Minister Manol Genov participated in an informal meeting of EU environment ministers in Warsaw. The main topics of discussion were combating disinformation related to environmental issues and adaptation to climate change.

Ministers reached a consensus on the cross-border nature of disinformation and the need for exchange of experience, better coordination, and specialized training. Bulgaria expressed support for initiatives to counter disinformation, especially regarding sensitive topics such as environmental protection and climate.

Minister Genov emphasized the importance of institutions providing timely and clear information, fostering open public dialogue without infringing on fundamental rights such as freedom of speech. The development of a European Climate Change Adaptation Plan was also discussed during the meeting.

The Minister welcomed the initiative for the plan, calling it "an adequate response to growing climate threats." He stressed the need to support local initiatives, access to reliable data and forecasting tools, and the inclusion of nature-based solutions. He believes it's crucial to consider the specific characteristics of each member state, and Bulgaria is ready for close cooperation with the European Commission in developing the plan.
