The billionaire Musk is accelerating the launch of new services in X, including an encrypted messaging app.

Billionaire and owner of the social network X Elon Musk announced directly from his profile that the entirely new messaging app XChat will offer encryption, disappearing messages, and the ability to send all types of files, including voice and video calls. Without going into details, Musk added that the encryption in the new messenger will be similar to the principles of Bitcoin, and the architecture will be entirely new, with the expected use of blockchain technology.

Encryption of personal conversations is already available for subscribers with a paid service on X since May 2023. Messages can be encrypted by entering a four-digit code. Screenshots of the XChat user interface, where the function for disappearing messages was also mentioned, appeared as early as April. Last week, X temporarily stopped the message encryption function to implement important changes, according to sources.

For the moment, the new messenger is being tested in a beta version among paid X subscribers. There is still no information on the exact date of the official launch.

Musk does not hide his ambition to turn X into a version of the Chinese WeChat - a platform that combines almost all the functions needed by users. Meanwhile, the company OpenAI is trying to develop the World platform, which allows users to verify their identity through biometric data after iris scanning. Nevertheless, World can boast about 26 million users, while X reaches around 600 million monthly users according to data from October last year.
