Customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing found 53 packets of marijuana worth 466,625 euros hidden in a truck, Bulgaria's customs agency said. The drugs were stashed among boxes of car parts and steel goods.

The truck — a tractor unit pulling a trailer with Turkish plates — arrived at the crossing at about 5:30pm on September 24, heading out of Bulgaria. A Turkish man was driving. Paperwork for the trip, from Czechia to Turkey, listed car parts and steel goods.

After a risk check, officers from the anti-drug-trafficking unit pulled the truck aside for a full search with an X-ray scanner. The scanner picked up unusual density readings in the cargo hold.

Inside the boxes, officers found bags holding 53 clear plastic packets of pressed, dry green plant matter, weighing 57.040 kg in total. A field test confirmed it was marijuana. The drugs were valued at the prices used in court cases.

A customs investigator is handling the case under the Haskovo district prosecutor's office. The customs agency posted video of the discovery on its YouTube channel.
