Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD has announced that both of its coastal airports in Varna and Burgas have achieved Level 3 ("Optimization") accreditation under the international Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) framework. This global standard, established by Airports Council International (ACI), serves as an independent assessment and certification program for policies aimed at managing and reducing the carbon footprint within the aviation industry.

The awarding of Level 3 is a significant achievement, demonstrating that the company is not only meeting the requirements of the first two levels but is actively building upon its efforts. Earning this certification means the operator is engaging external partners—including government institutions, airlines, suppliers, and ground handlers—in the emission reduction process, even for activities outside the airports' direct operational control.

According to Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD CEO Dr. Frank Quante, this success confirms that the company is moving in the right direction. He commented: "Sustainable development is a strategic priority for Fraport Twin Star. The Level 3 Airport Carbon Accreditation confirms that we are on the right path—not only through effective carbon emission management but also through tangible investments such as the construction of photovoltaic parks, infrastructure modernization, and the implementation of energy-efficient solutions. Our goal is for Burgas Airport and Varna Airport to continue serving as examples of sustainable development in the region."

In recent years, the company has been actively working to solidify its sustainable development policy through a series of measurable actions. These include upgrading airport infrastructure, investing in energy efficiency, and building photovoltaic parks on the premises of both airports. The company added that this accreditation is further recognition of their consistent commitment to environmental protection.

Looking ahead, the airport operator’s plans include maintaining this accreditation level, conducting strict and continuous monitoring of carbon emission levels, and implementing new initiatives. The goal of this process is to realize the company’s long-term strategy, aimed at achieving full decarbonization of both airports' operations.
