The Prosecutor's Office uncovered a large-scale corruption operation among employees of the Ministry of Interior in Ruse, in which two police officers were committing systematic crimes during road control. The investigation covers the period from April 2024 to April 2025 and includes multiple pieces of evidence of illegal actions.
The investigated officers are I.I., 51 years old, and D.V., 30 years old, working in the "PP" Sector of the Regional Police Directorate in Ruse. They were committing crimes related to accepting monetary sums in exchange for concealing administrative violations.
The documented cases show that the police officers were asking for and receiving amounts between 50 leva and 50 euros from various drivers - Bulgarian citizens and foreigners. In some situations, the sums were in lei, which expands the scope of the corruption scheme.
The investigators conducted extensive actions, including searching properties and vehicles associated with the perpetrators. The collected evidence provides grounds to believe that the crimes were committed systematically and purposefully.
On June 24, 2025, the Regional Prosecutor's Office - Ruse charged the two officers and detained them for 72 hours. A request is pending to the Regional Court - Ruse to determine a measure of "custody".
