A medical helicopter flew a seriously injured young woman to Burgas University Hospital today from the Kosharitsa area, in Nesebar municipality. The helicopter landed on the hospital's helipad, where doctors took over and began emergency tests.
Unconfirmed reports say the crash involved an ATV. Doctors are still assessing the woman's condition.
The hospital has not yet said what injuries she suffered or whether her life is at risk. It's also not clear exactly how the crash happened, how old the woman is, or whether anyone else was hurt. It remains unclear whether she was driving the ATV or riding as a passenger.
Helicopters are used when every minute counts in reaching specialist care. Burgas University Hospital takes in serious cases from across the region, including patients flown in by air — in recent months it has treated several people airlifted after crashes in southeastern Bulgaria.
Kosharitsa is dotted with holiday home complexes, and in summer ATVs often drive along the dirt roads there.
