Citizens from Omurtag blocked the Sofia-Varna road due to ongoing problems with the city's water supply, despite an alternative water source being provided. One of the reasons for the discontent of the local residents is the delay in the repair of the water pipeline. They insist on an immediate inspection of the performed activities, in which they find irregularities, and are concerned that they will be covered up. The protesters also demand the legalization of the pumping stations that supply water from the "Yastrebitno" reservoir. The civic association "Water for Omurtag" has been fighting to end the nearly 50-year water shortage in the city, which has been partially resolved, but problems continue. The request for an inspection of irregularities around the repair was also presented in a petition supported by nearly 700 people. Representatives of the civic organization have held a meeting with the Regional Minister Ivan Ivanov, who told them that the case is in the process of being examined and assured them that "he will do everything possible."
